S Robins Styling
Fashion weeks are on at the moment and looking at street styles and celebrities on the FROW has been great as always. I do love some of the looks and I know we all look at them for inspiration and what to wear for the season ahead. Street style is the most popular fashion style as it can be different everywhere and adapted to suit your individual needs. But how practical are the looks we try to take inspiration from?
Looking through some of the many images on Elle and Vogue there are quite a few wearable looks that you can take inspiration from, as a stylist I want to help you get inspiration and find the day to day looks that are best for you.
These are some of the looks that really have been taken from street style. There is a mix of patent with the Jacket, shirt on Alexa Chung and the a line skirt on Lottie Moss. These are looks that can be used for everybody as inspiration. I love Patent, it is not for everyone and ladies who are curvier are better with a softer leather look or a suede, patent leather is stiff and looks it so goes with a straight body line. The black suit in the middle can look great with a pair of trainers on the school run or for a dressed down work day and heels for the office.
The A line skirt with the white shirt is a look that can be incorporated into everyday life. Add a leather jacket, a bomber or a blazer with trainer or boots and you can wear that anywhere.
Jeans in winter are life savers, get yourself a washed black pair and wear with ankle boots to dress up, a neat knit or shirt (choose your style shirt/blouse wisely).
Big accessories looks great but with small children or depending on the work you do this can be more difficult, if you want a statement piece I would go bracelet or necklace that is slightly cheaper so if it gets damaged it doesn't matter too much or wear away from prying hands.
Sequins are beautiful and everywhere this season, but for everyday wear how practical are they? If you are going to an event and you want to be a show stopper then a sequin dress is perfect. Just remember you will need a minimal if any bag as it will catch, try not to touch anyone with your dress as it will snag yours and theirs, it is also best to have a repair kit with you incase. If you go for a long sequin dress, try not to stand on it with spiky heels as the fabric is likely to be very delicate. These pieces are show stoppers and they stand out but they are also very high maintenance.
The underwear looks Jordan Dunn is showing with a coat are beautiful on a model! If you aren't going outside at all these are beautiful. Delicate detail and dainty fabrics can be very flattering and stunning on the right body but just think about your cost per wear on these items, will you get the wear out of them, they can't be worn easily with tights and finding ways to wear them is tricky.
Make a statement in your own way.
I feel these looks above are all so individual. Finding what looks great and works for you is so important when it comes to looking and feeling gorgeous.
If you want to make a statement in your day to day clothing without feeling over done or uncomfortable book a stylist, work through your lifestyle, your likes and dislikes and what trends are going to be YOU. This season provides a gorgeous range of styles that give me as a stylist lots of pieces to play around with and get you feeling your best.
