S Robins Styling
Summer time is full of occasions for most of us. Weddings, garden parties, races, summer balls, birthday parties, all kind of events! Most of these events require different outfits under the same dress code. If you are going with the same people different garments are normally needed but with different people we can normally make our clothes work to look different.
Make sure you read the invitation. There is normally a dress code to these types of events, if you are not sure ask the host. Mid to full length are normally expected, knee length or below. Arms may need to be covered for certain parts of the event also.
Colours are a massive statement in occasion wear dresses, what colours work for you? Do you want a subtle splash of colour or a bold statement like the yellow @elliesaab dress in the pictures above.
The @selfportrait strappy dresses are sweet and pretty but long enough to work well for events, they come in a range of colours to give different impacts. The covered Maxi dress is elegant but the sheer top gives an amount of elegance.
Jumpsuits are playing a huge part in occasion wear, they can look as glamorous as a dress but with a difference.
These are mid to high price point pieces selected from @netaporter and @matchesfashion to give a variety of looks and styles.
I am taking bookings now for Summer Occasion personal shopping trips. This will include shoes, hats, jewellery and all the finer details.
When's your wedding?
Are you planning your summer wedding for 2018?
I have captured some trends for spring summer 18' in this post, looking at 4 wedding designers to see what trends they are bringing to stores for 2018.
If you are trying to find your perfect dress, we will go through what you want and what is going to be the best for you. Book a consultation to go through what a bridal package includes.
Zuhair Murad - Paris based designer Zuhair Murad has some risky yet feminine silhouettes for the SS 2018 collection. Sheer skirts and tops with embellished detail feature a lot on these dresses, sheer but covered is a look being seen a lot for this year and next. There is always an element of being covered too with long sheer arms and open skirts. He has full skirts and fitted body con styles, sweetheart necklines and draping fabrics. The designer is known for exquisite gowns combining time-honored artisanal techniques with a modern take on femininity.
Marchesa - This is the ultimate feminine designer for bridal in my opinion. For the wow dress this is definitely a designer you want to look at.
Marchesa designs elegant, beautifully made pieces with a twist. SS18 is no different, the dresses feature ruffles, frills, tassels, floral embellishment, bows, sweetheart necklines, asymmetric hems, off the shoulder necklines, deep V necks, sheer bustiers and black piping. The black piping with the white gowns are a big contrast and unlike bridal styles that we have seen before. Floral detail is being used again with an edge of sheer silk tulle. Marchesa likes detail, 1920's style tassels are being used in with the flapper shape, lace with frills and high leg splits. Only one short style being used in media so far in this collection, short styles are great for a city wedding.
Vera Wang - There are a lot of more structured silhouettes from Vera Wang for next year. We are seeing asymmetric ruching on structure, lace detail, plunging necklines and high round necks, one sleeved gowns, asymmetric necklines and hemlines, tulle sheer panels, a lot of black featured in these gowns again giving a hard look to a soft feminine gown. there are puff ball sleeves in this collection representing the Disney princess look they remind me of Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Vintage empire line silk gowns are also entering this collection.
Viktor Rolf - This designer is focusing on the skirt, a lot of full princess skirts in this collection. structured and softer style gowns which is great for fitting different body shapes. Floral embellishment is making a key focus on the bustier top of the gown and on the skirt. Cut out detail, huge ruffles and huge skirt embellishments. I was really drawn to this collection, the skirts are simply stunning and if you are having a big wedding or in an exotic location these dresses are for you.

Are you looking for the perfect Ascot hat? Are you looking to make a statement?
This range of @philiptreacy hats are stunning. He has a range of hats perfect for Ascot whether you want to go totally oversized and in your face to more subtle head bands that still make a massive impact.
These hats are beautiful but work out how much you will wear them. Hat hire is very beneficial and will cost you a fraction of the price, if you are going for a hat that will get you photographed at Ascot I would suggest hire as you will probably never wear it again.
The thing to look out for with Ascot is getting your outfit right for your hat. If you want big and bold for your hat so you get photographed make sure the dress you are wearing works with the hat so you look amazing! If you are going for a smaller, more discreet hat then make sure if fits for you? Does it suit you face shape? and is it making you look your best? Try and angle slightly differently on your head, it may make all the difference.
These rules also apply to weddings. Try not to over shadow the bride but if it's a hat wedding do you hat well.

It is the season to start looking for those summer weddings.
Are you a guest? What type of guest are you? Family member, best friend, friend, work colleague? Are you looking for a fabulous outfit for a classic wedding? a castle wedding? or a beach?
Finding you're perfect outfit is hard, you want to look great but at the same time not upstage the bridal party.
When you are looking you need to take all things into account, if you are not sure if the bride would want you to wear black, white or red then make sure you ask. These are colours that traditionally are not worn to weddings so always check before you splash out.
Are you going to be wearing a hat? If you aren't sure whether you should, look at the invitation. The location and time you have been invited play a big part. What type of hat will you wear and what will suit you?
Most weddings now a days are more relaxed, you can find a dress/jumpsuit or even trouser suit that will suit the occasion perfectly and that you will be able to wear again.
Remember fabric is key! If you are going to a beach wedding in the Caribbean, go for a natural fibre. Silk, cotton, linen, chiffon etc. you want something breathable and comfy in a hot climate.

Here are a few dresses that are must haves this wedding season:
To all my wedding ladies, are you getting married soon? Or has he/she just popped the question? This is an amazing Australian brand who does it a little differently that has just come to the UK. They are taking bookings now, I believe the soonest they have is June but get in there! Take a peak on their website and look at the styles and get that appointment booked for yourself. Lace is featured in nearly all the dresses, they range from about £700+ but they are so worth taking a look.
If you are looking for something other than that classic princess dress this is the place to go. With different styles to suit all shapes. I am completely back this amazing brand at https://graceloveslace.com.au
